How many types of counselling after qualifying NEET UG exam?

The entire counselling process can be classified into two categories

  1. All India Counselling
  2. State-level counselling

All India Counselling: It is national-level counselling that is common for all candidates who belong to any state or union territory. It is conducted by MCC (Medical Counselling Commission) and its rule is common for all Indian medical aspirants who have qualified for NEET exams.

The authorised body is responsible to conduct NEET UG Exam, NEET PG Exam and super speciality courses.

Participatory Institutions under all India counselling are as follows:

  • All central Universities including BHU, AMU, and AFMC
  • All AIIMS institutes (19 colleges)
  • JIPMER Pondicherry
  • JIPMER Karaikal
  • 15% seats of all state universities
  • All DEEMED Universities

State-level counselling:

It has a different set of rules for different states. Students who belong to any particular state can participate in state counselling for which domicile certificate of that particular state or if any student has done 11th & 12th from any particular state can take a seat in medical colleges through state-level counselling of that particular state.

Every state has its own reservation and admission policies. Hence state-level counselling has different rules based on the domiciles of that candidate.

How many rounds are in NEET UG counselling 2022?

It is very essential for an MBBS aspirant to know the counselling process which includes the information of steps and information about how many rounds are there to complete the entire counselling process.

After the conduct of the NEET exam, a notification appears on the website (https://www.mcc.nic.in). On this website, a first notification comes to inform the students about the counselling date and process.

The counselling process is divided into 4 rounds:

Round 1 –  It is conducted in online mode and all government/private/deemed medical universities’ seats can be filled in this step. The counselling in round 1 is further divided into 2 parts —for All India seats & for states.

Round 2 –  It is also an online mode and here also all government/private/deemed medical universities’ seats are filled in this step. This round is almost similar to the first round but with a little difference.

Note: When round 2 for all India seats happens, 15% of state seats are also considered. If a few seats remain left that will be carried forward to round 2 counselling for state seats.

Suppose, there are 100 seats in any state medical college, 15% of seats (15/100) will be opened for round 2 all India seats counselling. And suppose, 12 seats are filled at this step and 3 are left, these 3 seats will be automatically forwarded to round 2 state seat counselling. Hence, in round 2 for state seats, aspirants will get (85+3 seats).

Mop-up round: It is also conducted in online mode. It is about filling unfilled seats in NEET counselling during round 1 and round 2 steps. A student automatically becomes eligible for this round when he/she doesn’t get a seat in round 1&2. The mop round is a step in which state-by-state counselling for medical seats takes place.

Stray Vacancy Round: It is conducted in offline mode. Students need to go physically to the particular colleges for performing all the formalities related to this round. Therefore, it is always suggested that students should respond proactively when any notification regarding a stray vacancy round appears on the official MCC counselling.

Stray Vacancy Round: It is conducted in offline mode. Students need to go physically to the particular colleges for performing all the formalities related to this round. Therefore, it is always suggested that students should respond proactively when any notification regarding a stray vacancy round appears on the official MCC counselling.

These two counselling rounds proceed only for central and deemed universities. 15% of state seats are not included in these two rounds.

After successful registration, candidates will be asked to submit NEET counselling 2022 fees, which are divided into two categories refundable and non-refundable.

Type of InstituteCategory Non-RefundableRefundable
GovernmentGen/EWS100010,000
OBC/SC/ST/PH5005000
DeemedGen/EWS10,0002,00,000
OBC/SC/ST/PH5,0002,00,000

Note: The above fee details are based on NEET UG counselling 2021. These may change this year. Candidates are requested to keep checking the official website regarding notification related to it.

Note: If the candidate wants to participate in counselling for government colleges, they need to deposit a non-refundable and refundable (security deposit) fee.

The fee payment will be done online mode only.

  • If the candidates are from the general category, they need to pay Rs 1000
  • Non-refundable and Rs 10,000 refundable fee which means a total of 11,000
  • If the candidates are from the reserved category, they need to pay Rs 500
  • Non-refundable and Rs 5000 refundable fee that means a total of 5500

If the candidates from the general category want to appear in counselling for deemed universities, they will have to pay a non-refundable fee of RS 10,000 and a refundable (security deposit) fee of Rs 2,00,000. That means the total counselling fee would be 2,10,000.

If the candidates from the reserved category want to appear in counselling for deemed universities, they will have to pay a non-refundable fee of RS 5,000 and a refundable (security deposit) fee of Rs 2,05,000. That means the total counselling fee would be Rs 2,05,000.

If a candidate wants to participate in deemed university counselling, he/she automatically becomes eligible for government counselling also. Let’s say any candidate has secured 600/720 and he is in doubt about getting government colleges. He can do the same as mentioned above on this point.

Now a question will arise in your mind when the fee is refundable then what is the need to pay it?

Here is the answer,

When you left your selected college seat in round 1 of counselling, No issue,

But when you leave a seat in your selected college in round 2 from All  India counselling, this refundable amount will be fortified in both the cases of the government as well as deemed universities.

Therefore students are suggested to fill their choice for medical college with a conscious mind. If you commit any mistakes you will lose your security deposit money.

To avoid any mistakes, you can take help from CollegeClue’s experts @+91-9310382181.

  1. Choice filling and locking process in NEET-UG 2022 counselling
  • In this step, students are required to submit their preferences of medical colleges based on their marks obtained in the NEET exam.
  • The choices you have filled in can be changed before locking it finally
  • Once you are done, enter your password and click on “Lock Choices”
  • After locking the choices, the candidate won’t be able to do any changes in college preference.
  • After locking, get a printout that will show your prefered list including the locking date with time & IP address of that computer.

Note1: This step is the most crucial process of NEET Counselling. Any wrong choice of university will impact your entire career.

Note2: This is a complex process to understand, hence you should select the order wisely.

Note3: MBBS seats will be allotted on the basis of your AIR (All India Rank) and your preferred order of medical colleges.

Note4: There are a total of 286 medical college choices including government, private and deemed universities. One can fill in as many choices as possible.

Note5: Locking your preferred colleges is a must, that shows you have made sure all about the colleges. After locking the preference list, you won’t be able to alter the college list.

Having exact information about colleges fee, placement, training and infrastructure is a must before filling the college choice, because if any college is allotted to you in the second round will be your final seat for the MBBS course in India.

If you reject the allotted seat after the 2nd round of counselling, your security deposit amount will be fortified in that case.

  1. Declaration of Result after NEET-UG counselling 2022

MCC releases seat allotment results after every round of counselling. The result is released based on your marks, seat availability and your preference of colleges.

Let’s understand the scenario after the declaration of the NEET counselling result.

Case1: If you are satisfied with your allotted seat then no issue, you can take admission to that allotted college. You will be asked on the MCC website whether you want to continue with counselling or not. Just select NO!

If you are partially satisfied and expecting to get any other better college in round 2. Just take admission by keeping you on the safer side. Now you have to click on YES on the MCC website that you want to continue with the counselling. In this way, if any college doest allotted to you in the second round, your admission to the last allotted college is safe for you.

If you get admission to any better college in the 2nd round, you can cancel your admission from the last college, take no dues and take admission in the newly allotted college. The process of transferring is quite tough, but this way, you can keep yourself on the safer side.

If you are not satisfied with the allotted college at all, you can make a FREE EXIT from round 1 and can appear in the 2nd round from the beginning.

Round 1 allows you to make a FREE EXIT, in this case, your security deposit amount will not be fortified.

If you make exit from the 2nd round, then your security depository will be fortified. So while appearing in the 2nd round, ensure to choose the colleges wisely and carefully.

All the above discussion was related to all Indian counselling. Now talking about state counselling,

State counselling is conducted by the concerned state authority. It is quite different from the All India counselling process because every state has its own different rules and regulations. Following are the difference are listed below:

  • Reservation quota like freedom, defence quota etc.
  • Students may see counselling and tuition fee variation
  • In Round 1, total seats are 85% of all state medical colleges, and the rest 15% are filled from all India quotas.
  • In Round 2, the remaining seats from 85% and 15% (from all India counselling) are filled.
  • It has 3 rounds, which include Round 1, Round 2 and the Mop-up round.

MCC has set a format for choice filling and all states follow that similar pattern. However, a little bit of difference is always there.

FAQs

  1. Why does the NEET cut-off percentile remain the same every year while the cut-off marks don’t?

NMC (National Medical Council) has fixed the percentile for the NEET exam, which is the 50th percentile for the general category and the 40th percentile for the reserved category. The percentile score obtained depends on the marks scored by all candidates appearing in the exam. Therefore, the corresponding marks obtained vary every year and so does the performance of the candidate.

  1. Which candidates are eligible for AFMS counselling?

The candidates who are eligible for AFMS counselling must register with an AFMS counselling option. The list of such candidates will be sent to AFMS authorities for organising offline counselling where they undergo physical fitness and personality tests. The result will be internally sent to MCC authorities and AFMS candidates can see their results on the MCC website.

Candidates can pay the counselling amount using net banking, credit card, or debit card. Only after the successful payment, candidates can proceed with choice filling.

Final Takeaway

NEET council might be a complicated process for many candidates but with the proper guidance of experts, you can strategically fill the college preference to get the best medical institute. Many students with decent merit will get admission through NEET UG 2022 counsellingexpected date but there would be thousands of potential candidates who won’t be able to get a seat in government/private colleges, they will either reappear in the NEET exam or give up on their dream.
We suggest to all the MBBS aspirants to have a Plan-B i.e Study MBBS Abroad. If a strong gut feeling comes from deep inside that you can improve your game by next year, you must reappear in the NEET UG Exam. But you should also consider that a luck factor also plays a role in your success, so to cover this risk you should have another plan to pursue your dream of becoming a doctor.
