Bukhara State Medical Institute was established in 1990 with a single stream. After two years it started the Stomatological stream in 1992 and with this, the institute began to expand. 

At present, the university has a total of six faculties: General medicine, dentistry, Medical education, and higher nursing, pediatrics, medical biology, and medical prevention. The university has a department for each stream with both the option undergraduate and Postgraduate.

Bukhara state medical Institute is a renowned name for its higher medical studies and provides high-quality education and learning environment with all amenities, educational equipment, and other facilities that help the students while studying.

Currently, the university has around 1300 international students from different countries of the world. There are 231 faculty members including, professors, doctors, lecturers, senior-level professors to teach the students of 40 departments.
