Tashkent medical academy has a huge history in medical education. In 1919, when the faculty of medicine was started the Tashkent medical academy was known as Turkestan state university. Later on, in 1935, the institute renamed itself and gained popularity as Central Asian Medical Institute.
The institute grew at a fast pace due to its educational qualities, it had started accepting international students from Asian, African and European countries.
In 1990, the concerned ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan decided to establish two medical institutes on the basis of two buildings (old & new one) in Tashmi in Tashkent. Both the buildings were given separate names first “Tashkent State Medical Institute” and the “second Tashkent State Medical Institute”.
The first institute had the faculty of medicine and dentistry and the second institute had the faculties of medical and sanitary hygienic. Further in 2005, the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan merged the two separate institutes and gave it the name Tashkent Medical Academy. This step was taken to improve the overall education and teaching qualities of the institutes and introduce the latest educational technologies to create world-class, medical professionals.
