The National Testing Agency (NTA) is the responsible body which decides NEET cut-off scores. It is published on the official website of NTA after some days of declaring the NEET result. NEET Exam 2022 is going to happen in the month of July, so the aspirants who are preparing for the exam expect to have NEET 2022 cut-off prediction.
Having an idea about the cut-off really helps in preparation because NEET aspirants can change their strategies or boost their level of study if they are falling at any part.
Before going ahead, let’s try to understand
What is the NEET Cutoff?
NEET cut-off can be defined as the minimum qualifying marks required by a candidate to pass the exam. It can be further divided into two parts — Qualifying cut-off marks and Admission cut-off marks. The minimum NEET cut-off score is a score that is required to become eligible for NEET counselling. On the other hand, the admission cut-off is the score which is required to get admission to an Indian government or private college.
NEET admission cut-off has always been far higher than the qualifying marks. If we look at the NEET 2021 cut-off, the qualifying cut-off score for the general category was 138/720 and 108/720. On the other hand, the seats of government medical colleges in India were closing at around 595 scores.
NEET UG 2022 important factors
No. of Applicants
2021 | 16.1 Lakhs |
2022 | 18.74 Lakhs |
We can clearly see that the number of applications has increased by 2.6 Lakh in comparison to the total number of aspirants last year. It is assumed that if the number of applications increases, the cut-off also tends to increase due to competition.
No. of Medical seats
In 2021, there were 84000 medical seats including both private and government medical institutes in India. But in 2022, it is expected to have 90,000 seats. If we see an increase in the number of seats, it is a good signal that the NEET exam will have a low cut-off in comparison to last year.
Difficulty level of NEET UG Exam
NCERT syllabus plays an important role in the NEET UG exam. If we see the trend of the last 3 years, the competition has increased hyperbolically. Check out the below table and you will see the number of students getting 700+ marks in the exam has increased.
2019 | 700+ | 3 students |
2020 | 700+ | 100 students |
2021 | 700+ | 123 students |
This means, it was easy for the students to understand the pattern and level of competence in the exam. And it is well known that the NEET UG exam question paper comes from the NCERT syllabus. So analysing this situation, it can be assumed that the cut-off may go higher than last year.
NEET Exam pattern (20 minutes increased)
Getting extra time in the NEET-UG exam will be a game-changer for aspirants. This has both positive and negative sides. If any aspirant has been preparing for the exam and practising the mock test based on 3 hours pattern, they may get some extra benefits because they have a mindset of doing the exam in 3 hours and getting 20 minutes extra will add more benefits in terms of accuracy and attempting the more number of questions. They can devote some extra time to their weaker section.
On the other hand, getting 20 minutes extra may increase your competition because students will have more time so they could attempt more questions in the exam.

How to calculate NEET cut-off percentile for 2022?
The NEET-UG 2022 exam result will come with the NEET percentile along with the scorecard. The formula used to calculate the percentile score:
Let say, a candidate acquires X rank in the examination and the total number of candidates who appeared in the exam is Y, then the percentile can be calculated with the formula [(y-x)/y] *100
Suppose if you get 100 Rank in NEET exam and the total number of students appeared are 15 lakh.
Then, [(1500000-100)/1500000]*100 = 99.99 percentile
