National Medical Commission removes the fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG examination_admissionclue.com

Good news for aspiring doctors — NMC secretary Dr Pulkesh Kumar has recently announced that there will be no upper age limit for NEET UG Exam. This rule will be implemented with immediate effect so that the NEET aspirants who are about to appear in NEET-UG 2022 Exam can take the advantage of it.

For those candidates who are appearing in the NEET-UG exam in 2022 for the first time, this relaxation won’t affect them but it will be a boon for those candidates who were about to appear in the exam last time due to their age. This news is like a drowning man clutching at a straw for the candidates who were about to become ineligible for the NEET UG exam this year.

Before this announcement, there was an upper age limit for NEET aspirants i.e 25 years for unreserved category candidates and 30 years for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC).

The age criteria had been questioned in the apex court of India for years. With this relaxation, candidates can now appear in the NEET exam as many times and even after taking admission in the other courses also.

This decision of NMC is also beneficial for those candidates who want to pursue their careers in foreign medical universities. There will be two scenarios after this decision,

Advantages of removing the upper age limit for NEET UG Exam

  • Dropper candidates can take admission in other courses and simultaneously continue their preparation for NEET Exam.
  • The candidates who are near to the previously set age limit (25 years for general category students) can appear in the NEET exam and after securing minimum passing marks, they can apply for MBBS in Abroad and pursue their dream of becoming a doctor.
  • It will improve the health care system of India because this NMC decision will give the opportunity to the potential candidates for appearing in the exam again, who couldn’t take the seat in any college by minimum margin score in the exam.

Disadvantages of removing the upper age limit for NEET UG Exam

  • Without having an upper age limit more candidates will appear in the NEET UG exam. The more the number of candidates the more competition will be there in the exam.
  • Cut off for NEET exam may remain high
  • Fresher candidates will compete with experienced candidates who have taken admission in other medical courses. It is so obvious that they will have more knowledge about the subjects of their field.
  • Due to high competition, Studying MBBS in India may also become more expensive. If the seats remain the same in the medical colleges, the tuition fee and donation fee may become very high, especially in private colleges.

Besides all the above points, this decision will create a huge impact on medical students. The benefits of this decision have more weightage than the negative ones. If all the things will be implemented perfectly, this decision will indeed become a boon for medical candidates who have given up on their dream of becoming a DOCTOR.
